Tom English, affectionately known as 'Chobes', is a versatile back, who's preferred position is centre, while also being able to be used as a pacy winger.
A NSW Schools product and former Australian Rugby Sevens representative, English played for Sydney University in the Shute Shield prior to moving to the Rebels and in 2013, his first season of professional rugby, won the club's Rookie of the Year award.
English played 10 matches in his debut year scoring five tries, before playing 15 matches in 2014 and establishing himself as a bona-fide winger, thus earning his first call-up to the Wallaby squad for that year's end-of-season European tour.
English continued his form in 2015, playing 14 matches and scoring two tries to be touted as a future Wallaby after representing the Barbarians at Twickenham.
In 2016, English had a decreased output, only playing 11 games and scoring two tries due to injury, however 2017 proved to be a more fruitful year for English, playing 14 games, scoring three tries and averaging 75 minutes.
In 2018, English was announced as Club Captain and cemented himself as the side's first choice outside centre under new Head Coach Dave Wessels, with the back playing every game of the season and scoring four tries. English was recognised for his form by being selected as the Captain of a Super Rugby selection side which played against the Wallabies first XV at Leichhardt Oval.
2019 saw English achieve a myriad of milestones. English became the Club's greatest points scorer, trading positions atop of the chart with fellow back Reece Hodge. English also became the Club's most capped player, surpassing Wallaby-capped prop Laurie Weeks' 85 games for Melbourne.
English finished the season playing 14 games, taking his Super Rugby career tally to 94 games. English will now look to become the first Melbourne player to ever record 100 Club games in 2020.
